General informations

In 2018, the Kindergarten and the Primary School in Zlín, nám. T. G. Masaryka 1279 started its activities as a separated workplace of Academic School, Mateřská škola a základní škola, s.r.o. based in Uherské Hradiště. Since September 2021 it has been part of the Orbis Educational Complex – Kindergarten, Primary School and Secondary School, s.r.o.

The school offers a strong multilingual-education to students in kindergarten, elementary and secondary levels. In order for the school to provide a rich education, it provides pupils a learning environment in small groups which allows for individualized and differentiated approaches with respect to their needs. Teachers work closely with an educational counselor and a methodologist to help provide the best supportive and positive learning environment for all types of learners.

Teaching is delivered in both Czech and English. The English classes use a variety of tried and tested resources. The library with English literature is available for the students.

The school also takes great pride in enriching the children outside of the classroom. Children participate in discussions at the regional library and attend theatre and film productions. During the changing seasons, the school organizes various outdoor activities such as swimming, ice-skating and skiing classes for their physical education credits. Through ongoing additions to their outdoor education, this will help children to make better connections with their education which will create better retention in what they are learning.

The same building also houses a kindergarten where children from the age of two can be educated. The regular educational programme is extended by teaching English led by native speakers from abroad. Language teaching in kindergarten is the basis for further development of children’s foreign language skills after entering the Orbis School. In the last year of kindergarten, children are intensively preparing to start compulsory schooling where they practice correct pronunciation, concentration, gross and fine motor skills, mathematical ideas and socializing.

The Czech and English faculty are peers who strive to treat students as individuals and to help each one to achieve their full potential. They meet together every week to plan following week’s lessons and discuss the strengths and weaknesses that need to be addressed in each lesson. The English teachers not only teach English language but also cooperate with their Czech colleagues using the Content and Language Integrate Learning (CLIL) method when teaching maths, art, music, PE and science.

During lessons with English teachers the instructions are given only in English so the pupils can hear the right pronunciation and learn new vocabulary in a natural way. They design their lessons for students to not only practise during school-hours, but also during hours at home.

In our school there is a friendly atmosphere and we encourage positive thinking of our students. We emphasize the ethical standards in everything we do. Further, the school offers an inclusive environment and our classrooms are interactive, creative and stimulating. We make sure every learner is accounted for.
